Luis Felipe practices in the greater Washington D.C. area (specifically D.C. and Virginia) as a contract therapist at Queer Affirmative Therapy. Queer Affirmative Therapy envisions a society where the mental and emotional well being of LGBTQ+ people and communities of color are affirmed by cultivating a practice where safety is priority, traditional and intuitive forms of healing are honored and services are trauma informed. At Queer Affirmative Therapy you no longer have to explain your lived experiences.
Queer Affirmative Therapy was born out of the need to have additional spaces that centers and prioritizes the mental health needs and wellbeing of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer plus (LGBTQ+) communities. We envision a practice (literally and figuratively) where clients can see themselves reflected in the therapists and healers they work with.
Queer Affirmative Therapy specialized in individual, couple, and identity-based counseling and believes in and values non-traditional healing, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Expressive, and Mindfulness therapy interventions.
Therapy is a supportive, empowering, and collaborative relationship between the therapist and the people in therapy working together to achieve a person’s identified goals. While therapy may not be for everyone, having a safe space (physically, emotionally, and spiritually) where people can unpack their trauma, talk about their thoughts and feelings, and learn new skills and perspectives can be very helpful and impactful. My goal is to support people as to inspire change, improve their quality of life, and help them obtain a life worth living. While some may find the experience difficult, many find enjoyment through the therapeutic relationship and can become more self-aware, compassionate, and increase the overall mental health and self-esteem.People seek therapy for a number of different reasons, including:
– Relationship Issues
– Gender Identity
– Sexual Health.
Couples often experience unique troubles and difficulty specifically regarding their relationship and connection with one another. Having a mutual safe space to discuss and improve on these issues can help rebuild the relationship and reconnect the couple to one another. These issues can manifest in a number of different ways, including
– Connections to one another
– Communication issues
– Trust issues
– Sexual compatibility
Families and family units carry with them unique challenges when it comes to mental health and relationships. Overcoming these challenges is the goal of family therapy. By improving the connections and relationships among the family members and working within the family, families can learn to better communicate with each other and accomplish shared goals
